A woman has died following a reported fail to stop collision in the Bawtry area of Doncaster.

Shortly after midnight this morning (Sunday 24 July) emergency services were called to A638 High Street, Bawtry, following reports of a collision.

It is understood that two female pedestrians were crossing High Street when a vehicle was in collision with them both.

The vehicle failed to stop and left the scene.

One of the pedestrians, a 30-year-old woman, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been notified and has asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

The second pedestrian, a 33-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Initial enquiries suggest that the vehicle involved was a red Nissan Juke, which may now have front end damage. A vehicle matching this description has now been located.

A 49-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She is currently in police custody.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen a red Nissan Juke in the area around the time of the collision to get in touch, as well as anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or motorists who hold dashcam footage.
