Cannon Hall is on the lookout for bopping brides to be part of their summer blockbuster exhibition, which celebrates the history of the wedding dress.

In spring, Cannon Hall would like willing brides to come along and perform a flash mob dance routine while wearing their wedding dress. This will be done in the grounds of the stunning Georgian Country House, with the beautiful park and gardens as their back drop. Rehearsals for the piece will begin in early March and be performed in May.

The exhibition ‘Tales of the Wedding Dress – From Homemade to World Stage’ arrives on Saturday, 8 April and looks at fashions, traditions and personal stories that go into creating that very special dress.

As part of the exhibition the Hall will be displaying a magnificent collection of handmade bridal gowns, worn by stars of major screen productions from Friday, 26 May until Sunday 3 September. These romantic and glamorous dresses are on loan from Cosprop, the world’s leading costumier to film, television and theatre. Costumes include the stunning dress worn by Jenna Coleman as Queen Victoria in the recent ITV series, Helen Bonham Carter’s gothic gown from the 1994 film ‘Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein’, and Keira Knightley’s elegant costume from her film role as Georgiana in ‘The Duchess’, 2008. The exhibition highlights the history of the dress designs, an insight into making the costumes, and reveals fascinating details about the characters.

Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet spokesperson for Place, said: “Cannon Hall is the perfect venue for this spectacular exhibition. There have been hundreds of beautiful weddings ceremonies held there and it has a history of love a romance, its most famous couple being the Spencer – Stanhopes. The displays of beautiful dresses will bring the glitz and glamour of the big screen to Barnsley.”

For those who would like to be involved in the performance which will be used on the Cannon Hall website and social media channels they can email or alternatively call 01226 787 944. For details about the exhibition visit
